Apple TV+ has just released the first teaser trailer for The Lost Bus, its upcoming survival thriller starring Matthew McConaughey (Interstellar, Dallas Buyers Club) and America Ferrera (WeCrashed, Barbie). The movie is directed by Paul Greengrass (United 93, Captain Phillips), and you can watch the intense teaser trailer below.

The Lost Bus is based on the real-life story of a school bus driver and teacher, who helped save a group of children from California’s devastating 2018 Camp Fire.

According to IndieWire, Apple describes the film as a “white-knuckle ride through one of America’s deadliest wildfires”, and if the teaser is anything to go by, that’s not an exaggeration.

The story is adapted from Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire by Lizzie Johnson, who also serves as an executive producer on the project.

Paul Greengrass co-wrote the screenplay alongside creator Brad Ingelsby (Mare of Easttown). “The Lost Bus is the story of quiet heroism—of people coming together in the face of the unthinkable,” Greengrass said in a statement. “I’m honored to have been entrusted with this story.”

The film is produced by Ingelsby, Gregory Goodman, and Jason Blum, with Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All at Once) also on board via her Comet Pictures banner. It was Curtis who reportedly first brought the project to Blumhouse after hearing Johnson’s story on NPR.

This marks McConaughey’s return to live-action after a six-year break. Alongside McConaughey and Ferrera, the cast also includes Yul Vazquez (Severance), Ashlie Atkinson (BlacKkKlansman), and Spencer Watson (Them).

The Lost Bus premieres in select theaters and on Apple TV+ this fall.

Apple TV+ is available for $9.99 per month and features hit TV shows and movies like Ted Lasso, Severance, The Studio, The Morning Show, Shrinking and Silo.
